41 individual original hand-painted artworks depicting a U.S. Navy Boomer Submarine commissioned and constructed during the Cold War era. Each piece captures the essence of this formidable vessel, showcasing its design, operations, and historical significance. These paintings by Timothy D Thomas offer a unique artistic perspective on the silent service, honoring the legacy of strategic deterrence and naval innovation. Tim served aboard the USS Stonewall Jackson, SSBN 634 G from 1984-1989 earning Silver Dolphins, Boomer Pin and 5 Deterrent Patrol Stars, and took the boat through Overhaul, Refit, and Refueling at Charleston, SC Naval Ship Yard.
"41 for Freedom" refers to the 41 nuclear- powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) commissioned by the U.S. Navy between 1959 and 1967. These submarines formed a crucial part of the nation's Strategic Triad and served as the primary nuclear deterrent force until the late 1980s.
Artist Timothy D. Thomas, a former crew member of one of these "boomers" in the Atlantic, has created 41 original, hand-drawn artworks depicting a U.S. Navy submarine on deterrent patrol in the open ocean. Each piece is individually signed and numbered.
