Golden Eagle: The Drawing
In the drawing phase, I work at a 1:1 scale on white butcher paper, using soft pencil leads, typically 8B or EE. I start with light, gentle strokes and gradually build up depth and definition, darkening the lines in stages. This approach allows me to focus on the values in black, white, and grayscale. I believe that if the image looks strong in grayscale, it will translate well into color. This grayscale foundation reveals the values, giving me a clear sense of light, shadow, and depth, which helps guide the color application in the final painting. Visit: Golden Eagle Drawing Video.
